How to Sing Even When you Don't Know the Words

Everyone sings from time to time.
I don't care WHO YOU ARE, I know you SING!

Whether it's opera, oldies, top 40, Rap, R & B, etc. whatever it is, even if it's a catchy little jingle from a commercial, it gets in your head and you can't help yourself. Even if you can't carry a tune in a bucket, and you don't know the lyrics, you sing your heart out.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Music to sing
  • Shower
  • Car
  • Work
  • Home

Car singing

Have you ever been in traffic and looked over to see someone belting out a tune, or barely able to contain himself/herself because they are dancing in their seat? Try it, it's very liberating! Let people wonder what's gotten into you, especially if you have kids IN THE CAR WITH YOU or a SPOUSE you want to ignore! Don't let the fact that you don't know the words slow you down, make up lyrics as you go! My kids frequently tell me to go to "lyrics.com" so I can learn the words. I prefer making up my own! This way I won't forget how to sing it!

Belt it out

A great place to sing without fear of being heard while you don't know the words is in the shower or bath. Belt out a healthy rendition of Hello Dolly or some other, up-beat show tune! "Put on a Happy Face" from Annie is a good one. Sing it loud, sing it proud! Your bath time will never be as invigorating for you as those in which you get to sing a little bit.

2 And a Half Men

Other tunes that might trip your trigger include those from favorite television shows; my husband and I walk around the house singing the intro from "TWO and a half MEN" often times. It's just catchy and fun. Try it, it will make your house more upbeat.

or JAMS

It's also fun to listen to your kids' music with them and learn some of these songs for when you're driving them around with their friends. When it's quiet in the car and a familiar song comes on (because they will always put their station on, regardless of what you usually listen to) start singing along with the radio (regardless of actual lyric knowledge) to impress the carload with your notable "coolness". Doesn't matter whether your kids are younger or teenagers, it's always fun to do this. Soon the whole car will be thumping and shaking because of your obvious enthusiasm. GOOD TIMES!
